My dad still has his record collection, but we no longer live in that old house with no heating system
Some of my fondest memories from my whole childhood are when I would sit on the floor in the living room, listening to old records with my dad! My dad was always passionate about music. he had collected huge crates of vinyl LPs dating back to the fifties. We didn’t have cassette tapes, CDs or Ipods back then. We had records, 8 track tapes and radios. My dad mostly liked rock-n-roll, and we listened to all different bands, including David Bowie, Steve Miller Band, Cream and the Yardbirds. Because of my dad, I also developed a love of music. He and I would play those records for hours on end. The wood burning heater in the living room was our only way to heat the house. Located in the northeastern part of the country, the weather got seriously cold. We had temperatures down below zero. The house was really small and really old. There was no central HVAC system for heating on cold nights. When the temperatures dropped, we’d to start a fire in the little stove, and it would make the whole room warm. The other rooms didn’t have any heating ducts. We would leave the doors of our bedrooms open and hope the warmth would spread through the whole house. We didn’t have a TV or any modern luxuries, but I was always content. I felt we had all that we needed. My dad still has his record collection, but we no longer live in that old house with no heating system. I have my own place now. I invite my dad over to listen to music together. I like being able to adjust the thermostat and have access to whole-home heating.
