Working from home is just all brand new for me.
My entire adult life has been spent working in an office.
The last office was awesome. It had an amazing view and was perfectly HVAC controlled. I was never too cold or too hot. The HVAC system was as incredible as the office was. Luckily, I didn’t take that situation for granted. I enjoyed working from that office every single day. Well, that is all over now. The company that I worked to build over the last 30 years was recently sold. The new corporate structure in place has eliminated my position. I was given a fairly decent severance package and sent packing on a Friday afternoon. It was not exactly the biggest shock of my life because the company that bought us is notorious for centralizing and payroll hacking. The thing that did surprise me was how difficult the immediate transition was. I’m in my mid fifties so, my work is not done. I still have kids to house and get educated. I took my contacts of 30 years and went out on my own as a consultant. The first thing I did was to set up my study to be a proper office. Getting the business equipment was the easy thing. Learning to work from home was the tough part. It was just such a dramatic shift in my routine. I didn’t feel like was at my work because I was in my house. Additionally, I like my office space HVAC temperature to be perfectly tailored to me. This is usually more on the cool side I thought. Apparently, it’s far cooler than my family likes it. So, I called the HVAC people and had them come out to personalize my HVAC in the office.
