Keep your comic book collection going with good air quality

If you weren’t aware why climate control is so serious for comic books, please let me tell you why! For decades, comic books were considered disposable, so they actually were printed on the cheapest paper available, and that paper needs temperature control and relatively strict humidity regulation to stay in mint condition

The afternoon my mom decided to throw out my comic book collection changed my life in a serious way. I honestly had never before in my life been more furious and aggravated. First of all she had gone into my bedroom and violated my privacy by tossing away my belongings, which was genuinely terrible enough… Secondly, there was tremendous value in these books, which wasn’t a lot but truly a few hundred bucks worth, and third and most critical was my personal connection to them, because these comics were seriously my pride and joy. I remember that afternoon all the time, as it cemented my status as a fully devoted comic fan. Recently I had a current HVAC installed just for my comic book collection, and when I realized it was nicer than the one my mother owns, I had to laugh about that detail. If you weren’t aware why climate control is so serious for comic books, please let me tell you why! For decades, comic books were considered disposable, so they actually were printed on the cheapest paper available, and that paper needs temperature control and relatively strict humidity regulation to stay in mint condition. Since they weren’t meant to last for so long, you have to stop time for them by keeping the temps even and the humidity low, so at the unquestionably least get a dehumidifier for your collection! For an extreme collector, you essentially need to invest the currency in a dedicated HVAC for your collection room. A ductless mini split will actually work alright, so long as it has a whole-home air purifier and dehumidifier in it… Otherwise your comics won’t last very long.
