I loved jumping rope when I was in grade school. I used to practice all different types of skills. As I got older, I got away from jumping rope until just recently. I frequently watch the workouts of professional athletes, looking for new exercises, motivation and tips. I noticed that most of them jump rope and make it look easy. I did some research and discovered that jumping rope is an excellent full-body workout. It engages the core muscles and targets strength, balance and endurance. It also burns a great deal of calories in a very short amount of time. I started by purchasing a leather jump rope with weighted handles. I was surprised that I was terrible at it. Despite keeping myself in good shape, I would tire within a minute. I kept practicing and gradually increased my abilities and stamina. I wore out two leather jump ropes. I’ve now moved onto a new system that uses one set of handles and interchangeable ropes of different weights. Because these ropes rotate much smoother, I’ve been able to significantly improve my skills. I’ve accomplished crossovers, double jumps, high knees and running with the rope. I’ve gotten where I really enjoy jumping rope. I now have specialized sneakers and a mat to minimize the impact on my feet and ankles. I’ve added an app onto my phone that offers guided jump rope workouts. I can choose from HIIT and endurance training and beginner, intermediate and advanced workouts. The app tracks the calories I’ve burned, number of workouts and number of minutes.
